Reflecting on a strong year for bitcoin and looking ahead at a landmark 2023 as Trezor approaches its tenth year.
Far detached from the drama that unfolded in the mainstream media, 2022 has been a modest but undoubtedly positive year for Bitcoin. Underneath the noise of thousands of speculators, critics and commentators, bitcoin companies have been humming away quietly and consistently like a well-tuned ASIC.

Feature highlights
Trezor Suite updates come out every month, to ensure a stable experience. That means some updates will be more exciting than others, so here’s a quick recap of some things you may have missed.
Full node Connect to your own node to better preserve privacy. As of April, you can set Trezor Suite to connect to any node running Electrum server, including the likes of Umbrel.
Bitcoin only Making bitcoin easier to use is a big part of making it succeed. This summer, we finally made Bitcoin-only firmware quick and easy to install through Trezor Suite’s Device Settings, instead of the old multi-step process. As long as you have your recovery seed with you, you can safely switch between firmwares at your convenience.
Coin control Keeping track of where funds come and go is a big part of privacy. Mixing bitcoin from different sources can cause your transactions to become public knowledge, so you can use coin control to ensure each bitcoin UTXO is kept organized according to its source.
Bitcoin Savings (DCA) Market turbulence is easier to endure when your buy-in price is averaged out over time. You can now set and forget your buys and have bitcoin sent directly to the secure custody of your Trezor, thanks to Invity providers Swan Bitcoin and BTC Direct.
Peer-to-peer bitcoin Cut out the middlemen and use Bitcoin as intended: from one person to another. Buy bitcoin peer-to-peer through the Trezor Suite Buy menu in your bitcoin account and stand up for privacy!
Make sure to regularly update your Trezor firmware to protect yourself from the latest vulnerabilities and get the most out of bitcoin.

Bitcoin does not only exist in the intangible online space, it is a real, everyday tool that can be of immense utility for billions of people. The use cases are broad, but the benefits of using bitcoin can be felt and adopted by most anyone, regardless of their background.

Through our Fiat Free series, we have tried to bring attention to projects like Bitcoin Ekasi, Bitcoin for Fairness, and many more, and will continue to find ways to empower and elevate the voices of bitcoin users who are making bitcoin work for them.
People who continue to question bitcoin’s value fail to understand that its use cases become more apparent the less financially secure your living conditions are. Bitcoin will need support to reach the people who need it most, and we plan to make that happen.
Connecting with our community
The last few years have seen Trezor and the whole SatoshiLabs Group grow significantly. Over a hundred people work at Trezor, with most focused on developing firmware, Trezor Suite, and related projects, or supporting customers in a range of ways such as direct email support, a new chatbot, and a new Learning and Support center on our freshly redesigned website.
Some of us were lucky enough to meet thousands of you in person at conferences all over the world, from the spectacular Bitcoin Miami in April to the groundbreaking African Bitcoin Conference in December. At the forefront of them all, the call for self-custody and privacy is one that we’re committed to answer. Bitcoin is common sense, and we’re here to make it effortless.

Normalizing privacy in 2023
Trezor is one of the longest-running companies in bitcoin. We have played our role in standardizing the way wallets work, and dedicate all our time to bitcoin features. One of the biggest obstacles of the present is financial privacy, with verification creating a mess of data honeypots waiting to fall into the wrong hands. This will change.
Through the winter months, the Trezor team is hacking away at a new privacy feature that will give sanctuary to coins that could be traced in data leaks and pose a risk to your safety. The threat of hyper-surveillance using CBDCs makes it all the more pressing that bitcoin is equipped to protect financial privacy.
